NEW: NASA to launch safety review of SpaceX and Boeing after video of Elon Musk smoking pot rankled agency leaders https://t.co/td7YTdO8St

Just shaking my damn head.
[Update a while later]
The story is behind a paywall, but here’s Tim Fernholz’s take.
[Wednesday-morning update]
If @JimBridenstine was Abraham Lincoln, he'd say "Find out what kind of weed Elon was smoking, and give it to all of my Associate Administrators."

Eric Berger’s story on this hypocritical insanity.
NASA protecting SLS and Orion, after Elon Musk shows NASA’s manned spaceflight program is obsolete.
What an idiot to give them an excuse though
Anything to slow down manned spaceflight, huh?
Given the level of performance Elon delivers to his various enterprises, perhaps his brand of weed should be mandatory for NASA upper management.
Lincoln, Grant, Whiskey – yeah!
As long as he isn’t an all day every day type of stoner, he is probably OK in the membrane.
Right, becuase Elon’s down at the factory, getting stoned and then personally welding seams.
At least he’s not drilling holes in Dragon. NASA dumbfucks.
This NASA investigation stinks of Boeing flop sweat.
Maybe they think he got high and drilled that hole in the Soyuz?
This is the same personage who Apparently reported a whistleblower to Child Protective Services over Thanksgiving Week.
Profit by the Holy Mother Bureaucracy Church, Suffer by the Holy Mother Bureaucracy Church.
I don’t mind reading Blue Origin’s in-house newspaper but readers are owed a disclaimer.
I can imagine how those interviews of hundreds of workers will go:
“This is my safety data sheet. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My SDS is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my SDS is useless. Without my SDS, I am useless.”
This could actually be a problem. SpaceX has a reputation for working people long hours. It could be argued that this could lead to poor safety.
It wouldn’t be surprising for government to have a problem with people working too hard.
Just don’t read the comments section at WaPo. Good grief.
There is an easy solution to all this posturing.
SpaceX will just launch its own crew on its own dime and own time.
Fly ’em around & bring ’em down. End of (this sad) story…
What unfortunately complicates this is actually Starship. This has become the premier “SpaceX-branded” transport. Had they stuck just a little longer with Dragon V2 as a “SpaceX” hauler rather than let it slip into strictly the COTS domain, they could have done this much sooner without giving any reason to anger NASA. Now that NASA believes it more or less owns Dragon V2 (well they certainly *paid* for most of it) there’s no way SpaceX can do this yesterday, even tho’ it is technically quite possible. So in effect, SpaceX created their own needless barrier to entry… We had the sound barrier back in the 40’s as the imaginary psycho “wall of death” until Yeager. What shall we call this one?
I’m with David. Fly a corporate crewed Dragon and just be done with it.
If this country can’t put a person in orbit by the 50th anniversary of our landing on the Moon then we deserve all the mocking that will result. Moon Day will just be a hollow call-back to the glories of days past, like the high school quarterback who threw the season winning touchdown back in the day, but has just been kind of floundering along since, and now can barely throw a football to the kids.
I am, frankly, enraged that this is what our nation’s space program has devolved into. What a pathetic squandering waste of the tax dollars the government takes from me.
In another week or two we will have another delay announcement from Boeing. Wait for it…
Coincidence I doubt it.
When did Jeff Sessions replace Brindlestine?
This will certainly make it difficult for SpaceX to retain its certifications of a Drug Free Workplace Environment, as required by each of its government contracts.
Of course, the government requires its own workplace environments to be free of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, and we all know how that works out…
I saw this Daily Caller article linked at NSF.com.

I also suspect that this is political pressure being applied to NASA by members of Congress.
