A first-hand account from Houstonian and amateur (but competent) meterorologist Eric Berger. This will certainly be the costliest storm in US history to date.
[Update a couple minutes later]
Michael Mann versus Joe Bastardi. One is a “climate scientist,” the other understands how weather works.
But the effects of climate change, specifically the moderately warmer-than-normal Gulf of Mexico, almost certainly exacerbated the effects of the storm. Texas is run by Republicans, many of whom have disavowed climate change.
Maybe a competent meteorologist. He should stick to that and space. Less likely to make an astrodome of himself.
Weather isn’t climate except for when it needs to be to support gullible warming. I am sorry for what is going on in Texas but hurricanes, and flooding from them, are not new and we can’t stop the weather from being variable. There is no action humans could have taken that would have stopped the hurricane.
One of the hardest things for humans, probably more so for people who think of themselves as the intellectual elite, is realizing that much of life you can’t control.
