  1. Trump lies as much as any other politician. The media created a fictitious world when Obama was President and they have kept on with the Potterization of reality.

  2. Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton lied on an epic scale, and were more than just given a pass by the media. The media were complicit, because they support the idea of unlimited government power from which they are immune, and to which they have access.

I don’t think Trump lies as much as he says things that aren’t true – which isn’t the same thing. How many people would tell you that Yogi Bera said “Predictions are hard, especially about the future.”? Well, he’s very far down the list of possible sources, and well ahead of him is Niels Bohr (who didn’t originate it either). Trump says things he’s heard, or has heard and doesn’t remember correctly. Obama and the Clintons lied deliberately, and with great calculation. There is an incredibly wide gulf between the two approaches.

Now the media are engaged in a campaign of mixed lying, telling falsehoods in which they passionately believe, and reporting things they’ve heard whose truth hasn’t been questioned in any way (and often is so unutterably insanely false on its face that no one with above a room temperature IQ would ever give it credence).

And they are baffled at the fact that most people (including me) got a real kick out of Trump’s press conference yesterday. The one where he absolutely eviscerated the press, and did so without any fear, or any hesitation. The Republican party should take note.

  3. Everybody has deficiencies. The people you have to watch out for are those that are good at hiding them. Being wrong is correctable. Being a liar (intent to deceive) is generally not.

Trump, like most humans, doesn’t like to be embarrassed so he does what most humans do he tells ‘white lies’ which people do about themselves and others all the time. I personally don’t like white lies but they are common.

One misconception is Trump lies when actually he’s not. He often speaks in shorthand such as “Russia is fake news” by which he means, not the country, but the media narrative that he has some nefarious association with Putin. This is clear to any generous listener when they understand the context, especially when the literal meaning makes no sense.

Trump supporters get him because they too live in a world of white lies and verbal shortcuts.

Trumps greatest ability is to expose the true liars, that are really good at it meaning you trust them when you should not.

Ignore his white lies and Trump is the most honest president this country has ever seen. Plus, when wrong he can be corrected.

People that want to see Trump as a liar will never be short of evidence… and will be wrong.

Yes, the whole, “The leaks are real but the news is fake.” thing that the media was freaking out about. Like with the NYT claiming the administration is crawling with Russian agents, at least four of them. No wait, at least three and many many more but not four or more.

      1. Are the reporters and editor’s for CNN even social-normal? Do they even understand speech inflection and body language?

In connection with the recent press conference, they were not only running the banner “Trump: It would be great if we would just shoot the Russian spy ship 60 miles off our coast.” Their clueless reporter was also claiming that “Trump is offering contradictory messages regarding reconciliation with Russia.”

They then showed actual excerpts from the press conference. It was New York sarcasm, people. He was saying that were he order an attack on the ship, he would be lauded as a hero, but as president, he was not going to pander to the war faction in our country.

You might say that “shoot the ship” is a terribly provocative thing for a president to say as an off-hand remark, but I am certain the Russians understood much better than CNN what he meant regarding the factional battle lines being drawn in the U.S..

      ………………

Verbal shortcuts is a good description of what I see.

He’s not a great communicator – he could say the same things in a different way which is just as powerful but doesn’t leave so many openings.

But he’s like George W. Bush in some way where he has a fully fledged statement but speaks only a few words.

It costs him but it might be a price he’s willing to pay.

  4. Trump has so far proven himself to be eminently trustworthy. He made a series of campaign promises and has moved as fast as possible to follow through with them. He is not, as most conservatives have, backing away from voters priorities now that he is in office. What exactly did you think made him untrustworthy?

      1. That is not an answer. And coming from someone who has never ‘got’ Trump in the first place, it isn’t exactly a claim from authority. Trump intentionally lies on trivial stuff, quite obviously intentionally, because it always serves to distract the media from anything real. I don’t not count that as dishonesty as the points in question never mattered to anyone, they are political tactics and highly effective ones at that. But where are the lies about policy, things that matter? He promised a wall, we are getting a wall. He promised to halt muslim immigration, he did that (or at least started down that path). And so it goes. The things he promised to do, are being done. And while he does them, the media are beating him with crowd size and arguing if their stories are fake news or not.
