Yes, this is an argument about what constitutes “pollution” and how best to deal with it, not whether or not we are indifferent to it. But of course, if the Left had no strawman arguments, they’d have no arguments at all.

Reminds me of the arguments which rely on counting mass of CO2 emissions as equivalent to all other sorts of pollution (such as mercury emissions) in order to make the claim that the US is the most polluting country on Earth.
China emits about twice as much CO2 as the US, so that better have been per capita.
