Thoughts from Bob Zimmerman, who agrees that it’s potentially bad news for SLS/Orion (i.e., good news for people who want to actually accomplish things in space with NASA funding).
As he notes, it’s probably also bad news for Gavin Schmidt and GISS.
He has strong anti china views, I imagine that was part of the reason. He is a big advocate for commercial space. I REALLY hope THAT was the reason he was picked. I wonder how the republicans in the space states will few him? A double edged sword?

GISS should be folded into NOAA/NCAR. If Gavin wants to continue to live and work in NYC he should start lobbying his soon to be new superiors now. Although what’s so bad about Boulder CO?
