  1. “Top officials admitted that they were targeting conservative groups, years ago. ”

In the words of Scarlett O’Hara, “It can’t be true! It can’t be true!” Tell them, Baghdad Jim!

By the way that reminds me: I have been wondering if BJ is going to join the promised hegira of “liberals” to countries more to their liking (say, Cuba) , now that Trump has been elected president. Certainly there are enough statist regimes in the world for Jim to find one where he could toady up to the local ruling class and act as Baghdad Bob-like Minister of Disinformation for. How about Venezuela, BJ? “Talk of food shortages is simply countyer-revolutionary propaganda!” “The Venezuelan currency is perfectly sound!” etc., etc.

    1. Hysteria will likely ramp up rather than down. The media has proven they have no ability to learn. Hopefully enough republicans can.

  2. Sounds like it’d be easy political points to prosecute some of these crimes. And I’d like to see some of the political games of the past two decades generate some blowback.

  3. The IRS itself announced this itself back in 2013. Then, as now, multiple investigations later, there was no evidence that the targeting was done for political motives.

        1. I wish to apologize to Jim for thinking for all this time that he was a idiot and a troll.

I appreciate his patience in explaining why the IRS didn’t do anything wrong by slow walking for years various groups 501c applications.

Per the notes listed in the linked article.

“They (IRS Agents) think they know what the org is really doing, rather than looking at actual activities. Q’s (questions) were not activity based, but guilt by association questions – like q’s asking party affiliations …”

          and

“Agents felt if they could ask enough questions, they will find a problem. Agents were jumping to negative conclusions and assumptions – particularly where relationship with political groups or affiliations.”

I understand now that 501c groups have to follow the usual IRS policy that every taxpayer or organization have a responsibility to meet the burden of proof a IRS Agent set so that their request for 501c status, or the annual report outlining their yearly revenue and activities meet all the conditions an IRS Agent sets.

I understand now that failure to adhere to these rules places an organization at risk of never obtaining or losing its 501(c)(3) status.

You have my thanks for spending all this time explaining why tea party groups applications were denied or ignored until after the election for issues they organized for had passed. I now understand why the new administration next year will be able to scrutinize the annual reports of all 501c’s to see if they can revoke the status of organizations like People for the American Way, American Civil Liberties Union, Colbert Super PAC and Black Lives Matter.

          1. Ajnd some prosecutions, and loss of pay/privileges,m such as clawback of at some retirement benefits. It’s about time for these sh**weasels to pay the price.

          2. The left needs to be collapsed the same way the Soviet Union was… financially. We can not afford to lose this war. The modern left and right can not coexist.

          3. Im done. Mattm is the troll grandmaster. I can only dream. And yeah, the IRS should look into Media Matters.

    1. Actually Jim, this is about internal communications where they specifically talk about targeting people based on politics.

  4. The paradox is the only way to deal with the problems on the right is to completely destroy the left first. Trump’s election is only the beginning.

    1. It really is a paradox because the left takes advantage that our society is based in large part on the good faith actions of people who make up the government.

In order to restore the system to balance, after Obama corrupted it, requires the removal of many people who acted in bad faith. This goes against what people on the right believe is the proper way for government to conduct itself. But if nothing is done, Democrats will continue to eat away at the principles of governance that have made our country successful.
