That article in the economist is disgusting. A species that won’t even TRY to avert an impact when it has the means, deserves to be wiped out.
Looks like we’ll have to kill or otherwise disable the “let it happen” crowd before gearing up to do something about it. I’m sure I’ve read SF with similar plots.
Oh, and I bet the “let it happen” mob will be almost the same people as the “we’ve got to stop global warming” mob.
