Minksy once took the time to thoughtfully discuss my work with me, and it was both a pleasure and a thrill. Nevertheless, the news of Minksy’s death makes me chuckle.
Minsky’s AI lab hosted our space discussion group at MIT in the early ’80s. He dropped in a few times and said that sf was the only fiction worth reading since it was the only only stuff that accepted tech change as part of reality.
His daughter Margaret and Danny Hillis used to spend time at our Space Systems Lab office in the Aero/Astro department.
His wife was the town physician for the Brookline MA grammar schools and treated me a couple of times.
If I could live off the prominent personalities I’ve met, I’d be richer than Croesus. And happier.
