  1. I don’t like black coffee either.

I make mine 2 parts coffee to 1 part heavy cream, or reverse for espresso (which I prefer).

  2. As I have no sense of smell, black coffee is just hot bitter water to me. But whitener and sweetener make it quite palatable.

  3. I think I saw you call iced tea “swill” the other day, Rand. So what is your beverage of choice? Room temperature tap water?

      1. Maybe you should try cooking with it instead. It’s pretty good in hamburger meat.

        Folger’s recipes

        Mmm… Raspberry mocha mousse parfait.

Or the coffee-infused Southern style pulled pork, in which you basically add 5 pounds of butt roast to your morning cup.

        1. You can also brown lean pork chops on both sides in a bit of olive oil then cover them in strong black coffee and simmer them in it for about an hour. It’s how my mother made “redeye gravy.”

  4. Rand, dilution might solve the taste issue. dilute one part coffee in 99 parts bourbon, imbibe a few glasses, and you probably will no longer notice the coffee.

    🙂

  5. I guess I missed why you apparently don’t like tea.

When I have coffee, I take it with a good amount of milk and sugar. But I don’t have it much because the jitters coming down of the caff jolt are just too much.

Not like the old days when my grandfather drank coffee black several times a day, and without sugar either (I think). “When men were men…” and all that.

I don’t know. How does one explain why someone doesn’t like the taste of something? I’ll occasionally drink it in Chinese restaurants, but otherwise, meh.

  6. I don’t particularly care for the taste of coffee but it grows on you. However, when I drink a different type than usual, the taste is almost unbearable. Black is the way to go.

Tea tastes much better but causes me to fall asleep. People should be cautious about jumping into the tea game. Tea heads sink a lot of money into paraphernalia and special teas. You might drink one brand of coffee but tea heads will have dozens of different teas from loose leaf straight from a farmer in China to bags of Lipton.

    1. I’m not a “tea head” and don’t sink a dime into paraphernalia. Hey, look at all the coffee variant fans (unlike you, wodun).

But I know that “English breakfast” (or some variant of that) plus the heat of the water usually gives me enough stimulant. And if I want to moderate the caff, I go for a green tea or a mix with my usual.

Oh, and Earl Grey tastes horrible to me, like some old patent medicine.

        Just wait…

Have you seen the Cuisinart tea pot that let’s you select the water temperature based on the type of tea? Or have you tried some loose leaf varieties? English Breakfast is a gateway tea…

  7. Well I must admit I love my coffee; mostly starbucks breakfast blend prepared via my Keurig one cup coffee maker (I am on my 2nd one, the first only lasted a year don’t know what the deal is). Other than coffee luv my green tea, and beer, mostly Michelob amber light; don’t drink wine much.
