Only The Police Can Be Trusted With Guns

And here’s the proof:

…when the smoky haze — caused by rapid fire of nearly 140 bullets in less than 30 seconds — dissipated, it soon became clear that more than a dozen officers had been firing at one another across a middle school parking lot in East Cleveland.

Soon after the shooting stopped, one officer rushed to check the two occupants of the 1979 Chevrolet Malibu that the cadre of Cleveland cruisers had followed into the lot.

Officer Wilfredo Diaz, a former city EMS worker, had fired the first shots at the Malibu after bailing out of his car.

He felt for passenger Malissa Williams’ pulse.

There wasn’t one.

Diaz moved Williams’ leg slightly to look for a gun.

Again, there wasn’t one.

Dead next to Williams in the driver’s seat was Timothy Russell, 43.

No officers were injured.

Speaking of which, should we be more disturbed that the LAPD is shooting at so many innocent people in their search for Dorner, or that they’re such lousy shots?

I think you have missed the point….the cops didn’t hit other cops…that is really all they care about.

  2. And I’m pretty sure California bans civilian body armor. If I drove a pickup truck there I’d keep quarter inch steel plate behind the cab.

  3. I think we should be disturbed that LAPD is shooting first, whether at innocents or not. There is nothing funny at all about the shooting of those two women. Their vehicle was the wrong make, model, color, and license plates; so it shouldn’t have even been stopped. Just looking at the photo and doing a quick count, I note about 20 rounds entering the truck with half entering the back window. Here’s a key point, the back window. These LAPD officers shot at suspects from behind?

  4. You’d think they’d be better shots here in Texas. I remember back in the 90’s someone tried to run from the Mesquite police and finally were cornered at a community college. I guess they thought he was going for a gun or something and they shot the vehicle over 60 times but only grazed the occupant.

  5. Uh, what kind of ammo were they shooting for the ‘smoky haze’ to be hovering over the area? Is the Cleveland PD using 6 shooters and black powder? And old fashioned SMOKING black powder at THAT!

I think this writer has seen one too many B & W westerns, shot in the early 1930’s.

    1. Even smokeless powder produces some smoke, only a lot less than black powder. You fire almost 140 rounds in 30 seconds, you’re going to see some smoke.

  6. It seems like the LA cops had reason to be skittish. Dorner killed another LEO on the way to his own, personal encounter with the proverbial Bolivian Army.

  7. Thing is our gun control friends would see this as an argument for further gun control. They would reason that even the police highly trained, experienced etc., produced this carnage just imagine the average joe six-pack with a gun.

  8. Creative license applied to journalism. I’ve been on a line with 30 shooters a meter apart sending 10 rounds each downrange in 55 seconds. Nothing resembling a “smokey haze”. Smokeless may not be smoke-free but its dadgum closer to less than it is to smoke.
