When it comes to guns (and many other issues), the Democrats don’t even have a popgun:
[Cuomo’s proposal] is beyond stupid. Rifles, notwithstanding Adam Lanza’s murder spree, are involved in hardly any homicides. More than five times as many Americans are murdered with knives than rifles – all rifles, not just “assault rifles.” More Americans are murdered with blunt objects; more are beaten to death with bare hands. The idea that banning “assault weapons” is the key to a more peaceful America is ludicrous.
Likewise with “ammunition magazines that carry more than 10 bullets.” I own two such magazines; there are countless millions in circulation. A magazine is a simple device, made from sheet metal and a spring; many thousands of Americans could make them in their garages. But let’s suppose that you could magically make all such magazines disappear. All a would-be mass murderer needs to do is pre-load, say, four 10-bullet magazines and carry them with him. People do this all the time. It takes only a second or two to drop an empty magazine from a semiautomatic rifle or pistol and slide a new one in. The idea that lives will be saved by making magazines smaller is pathetic. And yet, this is pretty much what the Democrats have to offer.
That’s what happens when you operate on emotion instead of facts and logic.
The Virginia Tech shooter killed 32 people with 2 handguns, a .22 pistol with a 10 round magazine and a 9mm pistol with a 16 round magazine. But what was really key to his “success” was that there was no armed opposition in the “gun free zone” thus he was free to roam the campus unmolested for literally hours from first shot until his last. He could have killed just as many with a bolt action rifle.
Back in 1972, Mark Essex went on a rampage that killed 19 people. He used a .38 revolver and a Ruger .44 Magnum carbine that only held 5 shots (and they were not in a detachable magazine, either).

But then this feeds the argument for banning all semi-autos. What matters is this:
More than five times as many Americans are murdered with knives than rifles – all rifles, not just “assault rifles.” More Americans are murdered with blunt objects; more are beaten to death with bare hands.
The argument about banning clips of a certain size wont stop mass shooters from reloading will just convince the leftists that they need to ban low capacity clips as well. It will ultimately get to the point where they will advocate for a gun that can only hold one bullet.
Then they will be like Jim and want some sort of restricter so only one bullet can be fired ever 15 minutes, then 30 minutes, an hour, three hours, twenty years or some other such nonsense.
Draw a line in the sand and the leftists will just keep crossing it because the goal isn’t responsible gun ownership or reducing violence but a society where there are no guns.
CT, Larry: Those weapons are next on the agenda if the nose-in-the-door bill can be forced through.
Also to be banned: “pocket rocket” pistols that criminals favor (anything smaller than an arbitrarily-determined size), “sniper-ready” rifles (any rifle that can take a scope), “Dirty Harry” pistols (Magnums, y’know), “rapid fire” rifles and pistols (semi-autos that would otherwise not be banned), “unsafe” firearms (anything that doesn’t conform to an arbitrary list of safety features drawn up by someone who is ignorant of firearms and hates them), and finally “criminal” guns (any firearm not already banned that hasn’t been registered).
Followed by knives with points (some British doctors were advocating outlawing kitchen knives with points). Presumably followed by knives with edges, rolled-up newspapers and sporting equipment.
Sporting equipment is already out, if you can’t prove you’re taking it directly to or from a game. Shaun should be glad all the cops were zombies by the time he grabbed his cricket bat.
Here in Canuckistan, any handgun with a barrel less than 105 mm, and all .25 and .32 calibre pistols other than a few specifically exempted for Olympic shooting competition are prohibited. Apparently they are too small and could be lost easily … Moron politicians everywhere.
I’ll let you all in on a dirty little secret. These weapons and ammunition bans aren’t designed to make our lives any safer – they are designed to give the government (specifically the Federal and some States) more control over our lives.
There are countless studies that show “XYZ” causes more lives to be lost than by gun violence, but noone cares about banning “XYZ” because it doesn’t let the real agenda get through.
“I’ll let you all in on a dirty little secret.”
This is me, raising one eyebrow quizzically.
Especially now in the 21st century with 3d printers, fablabs, and the internet.
Concerning magazines, you don’t need more than 10 rounds to hunt prey, but 20-30 round mags are quite useful for defending yourself from APEX PREDATORS (Homo sapiens).
