  1. Like sex offenders……….

or like fat cat rich people. The one percenters……

    or like AGW deniers……………………

Stigmitizing is Step 1 of the Alinsky technique.

  2. And yeah I love the turnabout…….

I figure that publishing where the gun permits are should move the burglars to the non-permitted households. Be interesting if that’s what actually happens, and THAT is published as well.

  3. New Yorkers are forbidden to have their guns outside of home. So burglars will go to the empty armed homes by day, to avoid conflict, and go to the safe gun-free homes at night, when there is nothing to fear.

This is the same pattern seen in the gun ban UK, where face-to-face crime and home invasion is much more common than in the “might be armed victims” US.

    1. Increases in home invasions, violent rapes, and brutal violent crimes are small prices to pay for keeping guns away from rednecks.

  4. Did they attempt to show mentally ill gun owners? Can the mentally ill pass a background check? So what does this have to do with NewTown? (eh, nothing.)

I’ve said that responsible adults should protect the children in their care. What is the mental status of those in charge of the children?

It’s not about those scary guns. It’s about all the scary people.

  5. We should band together to get a steep discount on little yard signs “Gun Free Zone!”

Then distribute them freely to everyone that is proud of that fact at their residence. And collect statistics.

    1. And in true sauce for the gander style:

The gun permit ownership map shows that all of those people choose to live in gun permit free houses.

  7. You know, if 1% of US gun owners filed a lawsuit against the parent corp it would die. And no one would ever attempt this stuff again.

File a lawsuit in your home local, and demand that the trial be local – it’s not like you went to New York. They will have to defend themselves against thousands of little lawsuits, and every one will have enough merit to go to trial.

    Especially in Utah!

    1. While filing such a lawsuit would be satisfying, it’s primary outcome would be to enrich lawyers and it would take years for any outcome. Since the information is considered part of public records in New York, I don’t know if the suit would have any basis in law. Instead, people in the area served by that newspaper should cancel their subscriptions and tell the advertisers that they’re boycotting them until they stop advertising in that paper. Driving them out of business could be done in a matter of weeks.

      1. Actually, if this is accurate, then the paper might’ve broken New York law. From the link (and the all caps are in the original):

Section 1. Subdivision 5 of section 400.00 of the penal law

        A. 9388 2

1 (II) A REQUEST FOR THE ENTIRE LIST OF LICENSEES, OR FOR ALL LICENSEES IN A GEOGRAPHIC AREA, SHALL BE DENIED, EXCEPT TO ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY OR ANY ENTITY ACTING ON BEHALF OF OR PROVIDING SERVICES TO ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SUBDIVISION, THE TERM “LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY” SHALL MEAN THE DIVISION OF STATE POLICE, ANY NEW YORK STATE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, ANY POLICE DEPARTMENT OF ANY CITY, VILLAGE OR TOWN WITHIN NEW YORK STATE, THE POLICE FORCE OF ANY NEW YORK STATE AUTHORITY OR AGENCY, THE STATE POLICE FORCE OF ANY OTHER STATE, ANY FEDERAL LAW.

        Stay tuned.

    2. David, if you were to advance such a plan, I’d consider small claims court, where lawyers are unneeded. Of course I’d also seriously consider if you can make a prima-facia case of damages before going to such a court, as the apparent objective is to force legal expense or damages.
