  1. Given Tuesday’s results… I’ve been kinda hoping that this whole end-of-the-word on Dec 22nd thing isn’t a hoax after all. πŸ™‚

  2. Actually given the Tea Party reaction to the election, and many who post here, it appears to have already ended πŸ™‚

      1. Not surprising, defense firms usually cut back when wars start winding down. Its the cyclical nature of the industry.

          1. wodun,

You didn’t read the article did you?

[[[Boeing said the changes were not a direct response to the threat of additional, across-the-board budget cuts due to take effect on January 2, or the outcome of U.S. elections, but marked another step in its long-term effort to be more competitive.]]]

In simple English its part of the wind down going on in the industry. They made a similar move after the Tea Party victory in 2010…

          2. Actually, yes I did read the article.

Does that mean the defense industry wont be making any cuts do to sequestration?

I think the critical part of my post was the word “and”.

  3. Maybe the world’s best hope for liberty died this year. As Ted Nugent just wrote, “Good luck, America. You just committed economic and spiritual suicide.”

  4. I wouldn’t worry, the “end of the world” industry will find a new date to promote just as the “America is finished” industry has been since 1776…

Pity they have so little faith in America…

          1. I just find its amazing you folks take it so serious, like it is the end of the world πŸ™‚ Its just an election.

Maybe you need to move beyond just listening the right wing media.

BTW here’s a sad example of an 18 year old who apparently really needs to.

          2. It’s just an election

On any given day a stock may tick up or down. But if you just hold that stock any given day doesn’t matter. Either you ride it up or you ride it down.

America is riding it down. But a revitalization of the midwest due to fracking may allow Obama to ride an uptick (and claim responsibility while fighting it all the way) on the way down.

So I guess you are right Thomas. It does not matter.

          1. Bob-1,

Thanks, but I am not the one crying. Its the others here who need it and my reference was to how they are crying about an outcome that I was telling them would occur since the Tea Party emerged in 2010.

Elections are not decided by the radicals, but by the independents and most independents are moderates. Drag a party to far to one side or the other and a loss is guaranteed.

The Republican Party was doomed to lose this election by buying into the agenda of the Tea Party radicals.

So now the question is has the party learned it’s lesson and will a clean up begin, just as it did in 1964, to sweep the radicals out or does the party has to keep losing before the message sinks in.

        1. I’m surprised you think people here would be worried about the possibility of Puerto Rico becoming a state with the implication the worry would stem from oh noes brown peoples.

    1. We should open up statehood to more than just Puerto Rico? For a flag, keep the 13 stripes and have just one big star with “[year] dash 51” below it in black (while still calling it the red, white and blue.) Make the implication that 51 is going up explicit and then do it.

Like highlander, “There can be only one.”

We start by making a new purchase to shorten our border. Buy Mexico just above Mexico city (with worthless IOUs) and form several new states (after an appropriate period of time like any other western state had to.) Then actually guard that new shorter border. Although I realize the allure of just handing them California.

  5. “Maya demand an end to doomsday myth.”

At first I thought this was Maya Angelou, but now I see it is representatives of an extinct civilization. Now I know why they’re extinct. The doomsday myth has been in the public eye for more than 20 years, and they wait until a month before it’s supposed to happen to raise objections — when just waiting a month would show the myth to be, well, a myth.

  6. Is anyone else here getting a little PO’d about the incessant references to “Tea Party Radicals”??? When did advocacy of such wild-eyed notions as fiscal responsibility, government in accordance with its founding document (aka The Constitution), a strong national defense, etc., etc. come to be defined as “radical?” Sheesh!

    1. Except that is not what the Tea Party candidates run on. Instead they run on taking away marriage rights, women’s rights, worker’s rights and basically restoring the nation to the WASP run world of 1920. The talk about fiscal responsibility, Constitution, etc. is just the usual strategy radicals have of wrapping themselves in Patriotism and Flag that all radical movements do to look respectable and fool folks into supporting them.

      1. Ok then – what, exactly, defines one of your “tea party candidates?” Was he/she nominated at the TEA PARTY NATIONAL CONVENTION that I somehow overlooked? Were those terribly nasty positions you refer to explicitly included in the official TEA PARTY PLANK that was voted on and approved at the aforementioned convention? I judge on the basis of a good many of your postings here that you have some sort of a bee up your butt about the TP. Tea Party derangement syndrome anybody?

        1. Er… I meant, of course, to ask if those positions were planks in the official TP PLATFORM that was voted on..etc

  7. My understanding of the Mayan calendar – especially given recent archaeological finds – is not that the end of the most widely known Mayan calendar timeline indicated any predicted end of the world, just the end of the future interval the Mayan astronomers had calculated at the time the thing was carved. Printed (or graven) calendars always have ends. I mean, hell, I’ve got several calendars that all end on Dec. 31, 2012. That doesn’t mean the people who printed them thought the world was going to end on New Year’s Eve. Yeesh! The things some people choose to worry about!
