The status quo policy is to deport undocumented aliens, regardless of whether they had any say in coming here, or have known any other place as home. And it is somehow “maddening” for Obama to draw attention to that reality?
Kaus is only upset because Obama is framing the debate in a way that highlights the least popular aspects of Kaus’s position. That’s exactly what persuasive rhetoric is supposed to do.
Um, like the forced repatriation of Elian Gonzalez to Castro’s Cuba?
No, what’s maddening is the lies that the administration is telling about what it’s doing. And no one is surprised that you’re happy to repeat them.
No, what’s maddening is the lies that the administration is telling
What lies? Obama is correct that young people brought here as babies, who’ve known no other home, were subject to deportation, and he’s correct that his policy changes that. The GOP knows he’s right, and that the change is popular, which is why Romney won’t even say that he’d reverse the change.
What lies?
Why not start with those listed in the article? The whole thing is a political sham. I note that Bill O’Reilly bought it. How about some honesty Jim?
So you didn’t actually read what Mickey wrote, instead relying on White House propaganda. Again, no one is surprised.
Mickey didn’t write anything about lies, and you seem to be unclear on what a lie is. To put it in terms you might understand, if Romney says that we should lower the top tax bracket to help hard working job creators, he is not saying that every single person who would be affected by that change is in fact a hard working job creator. He is using the example of hard working job creators to frame his proposal in a favorable light. His proposal wouldn’t sound as good if he said that we need to lower the top tax bracket to benefit lazy trust fund babies who spend all their time playing video games, even though his policy would also have that effect.
Obama’s statement — that his policy will help young immigrants who had no say in the decision to come here, and who do not know any other home — is persuasive, and completely accurate. Which is exactly why it bugs you and Mickey.
It’s not completely accurate Jim. Rand’s link indicates why. If you position your mouse over it and depress the left button you can read it yourself.
You should endeavor to be more accurate.
Sorry, mouse pointer. You don’t need to put the mouse against the screen Jim.
If you had any shame you’d be embarrassed for saying such a short article didn’t point out any lies…
Obama: “done everything right…” THAT IS A LIE, as the article points out.
Obama: “and know only this country as home.” THAT IS A LIE, as the article points out.
Obama: “brought to this country by their parents.” THAT IS A LIE, as the article points out.
Perhaps I can find a backyard mechanic to explain lying to you?
Curt, ya need to be even more accurate. Jim doesn’t use a mouse. He uses a weasel. Ya just can’t leave him that much wiggle room.
Jim must be using some personal definition of “popular” known only to Jim.
But Jim, since the aliens are undocumented we don’t know which ones came here without any say, how long they’ve been here, or if they actually have spent more time elsewhere than here. Obama’s policy essentially surrenders US sovereignty to anybody who can make up a story.
On the plus side, this should help lower wages in the legal economy, making the US more competitive with low-wage countries by expanding the class of working poor, and remove the current burden on employers who are responsible for checking to see that they’re not hiring low-wage illegals to avoid the costs of hiring blacks and poor whites.
Also on the plus side is that President Romney can strip all non-citizen workers of government benefits and emergency room access by executive decree, and even if the entire House and Senate flipped to the Democrats in his mid-term election, there’s nothing they could do to change it because laws passed by Congress are no longer binding on the executive.
So in sum, the US should see lower wages for workers, while potentially saving health and welfare costs via executive decree, allowing for lower taxes on businesses which will promote growth and help boost the stock market.
Or something like that.
Oh, c’mon…this will be at least as secure as those stated income loans…oh, wait…
Obama wont work with Republicans on immigration because then he and the Democrats wouldn’t have an “other” to run against as being racist; to them it is unacceptable that neither party is racist.
Obama wont work with Republicans on immigration
Are you serious? Rubio won’t even introduce his version of the DREAM act. The Republicans who originally sponsored the DREAM act filibustered it to death rather than let Obama claim it as a bi-partisan accomplishment. The only way Obama could work with Republicans on immigration would be to resign.
The Democrats aren’t exactly beating down Rubio’s door to support him either. Do you think that Harry Reid would allow Rubio’s bill on the floor for a vote?
It is in the Democrat’s best interest to not have illegal immigration addressed in any serious fashion and so you will continuously see them scuttle any attempt by Republicans to take part. They put up horrible bills they know will not get the support of the other side because they have no intention of their bills actually getting passed.
And if you think Obama would give any credit to anyone but himself, you are crazy. He would portray it as his greatest victory over the racist Republicans.
The only way Obama could work with Republicans on immigration would be to resign.
Now you’re on to something!
I think I could work with Obama on this too. Let’s do it!
You all realize how easy it will be for an illegal to get a rent receipt appropriately dated from some friend even if they’ve never lived in this country?
Not to memtion a bought and paid for back dated rent receipt.

The Democrats wouldn’t even work with Bush on immigration because that would ruin their old white man racist narrative. Just like they blocked Miguel Estrada from the Supreme Court. http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2009/05/29/the-reason-sotomayor-is-the-first-person-of-latino-descent-nominated-for-the-supreme-court/
