So how much has actually been spent on it already?
The James Webb Telescope has already peered into the early inflationary period of the universe and it hasn’t even seen first light yet. Impressive.
The Webb Hubble!
It was either this or a serious video about the deleterious effect of the NRO’s long standing interest in the science mission directorate of NASA. For some reason, when the NRO identifies the need for technology development – say, a new process for making ultraflat segmented mirrors – the work gets done through the SMD and NASA flips the bill. When sensible people start asking “why in the world hasn’t this insanely overcost program been cancelled?” every excuse is given except the real one: NRO needs the technology development proven. In the testimony given to the House last month there was some public recognition of this, perhaps for the first time, but it’s such an open secret that I’m not sure anyone noticed the importance of it and doubt they would if I made a video about that.

In any case, thanks for the embed.
It’s only fair. The KH-11 bought the Hubble.
