…billions may die. Sorry, when you believe wacky stuff, you don’t get points for earnestness.

Over 4.5 billion people could die from Global Warming related causes by 2012, as planet Earth accelarates[sic] into a greed-driven horrific catastrophe.
“Greed-driven”. Beautiful.
Right, because you know, systems like Communism, where people are only motivated by love for their fellow man, automatically take care of all externalities like pollution. Not.
Assuming those 100 billion tons are actually metric tons (worse than short tons), it would constitute a change in atmospheric composition of 0.004%. That’s far less than the 0.01% change so far in the past 100 years. And yes, I know that methane is a “far more potent” greenhouse gas than CO2, but it also has a finite lifetime: half-life of 5 years nominally, though in great concentration I think it would be less.
Besides which, the potency of the various “greenhouse gases” is a matter of conjecture, both in absolute and relative terms.
Oops. That was 400 billion tons, which makes it a 0.016% change in atmospheric composition.
I retract my skeptical statement, and admit that we’re all doomed. Goodbye!
thought that much methane would supply the United States’ energy needs for 32 years…
Rand, before we all check-out I just wanted to thank you for another great year of blogging. Too bad we apparently won’t be around for another. 🙁

Sounds like you may have found the perfect Libertarian Party slogan 😉
On the other hand, if the world ends in the next few hours, I won’t have to get up at five AM tomorrow morning. 😈
Sleep well, sweet Andrea. The world will still be here when you awake…
It is! And I had to get up early and drive to work! Darn it. 👿
Look on the bright side, Andrea; there’s still hope that you can sleep in when the current b’ak’tun runs out on 21 December.
*holds on to hope*
Well, it was knowing y’all…or at least, most of y’all. Peace.
It was knowing you too. Happy New Year!
I wonder if they’ll leave all their stuff to those of us who are left?
Happy New Year, Rand!
I was tired and went to bed early, so I missed East Coast New Year. Luckily I woke up in time for West Coast New Year. Gotta love the internet.
Happy New Year! Set beverages on stun!
Another year, another earthquake in Japan. Still, the world survives.
Happy New Year!
Have a very!
