I wonder if he’s regretting that he wrote that interminable condescending thumbsucker? First he was lampooned by Iowahawk, and now he’s been (gently) eviscerated by Lileks.

It’s people like him that prove you don’t have to go overseas to be an Ugly American. I’ve encountered quite a few of them over the years. They are almost always from a coastal urban area and are so full of themselves that they beleive their excrement has no odor.
You nailed it with “ugly American.”
If this tripe had been written about any of the liberals “favored” oppressed countries, his screed would be held up as proof of how hateful, ignorant, narrow-minded, arrogant, and insular Americans are.
If he traveled to Africa and wrote something similar about their customs, klansmen back home would nominate him for Grand Kleagle. If he wrote about Arabs or Muslims (complete with lots of comments about camel jockies and goat sex), he’d be lambasted. He’s the kind of American that would live in Paris for twenty years and write about how the residents squalk through their nose in a failed attempt at human speech, since real people speak English, and sit by the river painting pictures because they’re too dumb to use a camera.
Lileks is awesome. Thanks for the link.
I’m impressed that he dared mock the “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable” precept. Put that together with people questioning the meaning of “It’s a Wonderful Life”, and I’m beginning to wonder if the Earth is shifting in its orbit….
