It keeps freezing up on me, to the point that I have to kill the process and restart. I switched from POPD to IMAP a month or so ago, but don’t know if that’s related to the problem. It’s very annoying, because it makes it hard to get mail.

Have you tried using raw telnet (or an alternate client) to the imap port to make sure there’s not a server-side problem?
IMAP’s a kind of dense protocol but it’s easy enough to run a few basic commands to see if the server’s responding.
It actually does recover on its own. It’s just annoying because I’ll try to access it, or be typing an email, and it freezes up, then eventually it comes free (and the stuff that I was typing shows up, apparently from the buffer).
