“Listen carefully! We are a group of individuals that represent a small foreign faction. We respect your bussiness (sic) but not the country it serves.”
Funny, the author did not mention the most important reason not to use exclamation points: some spam filters count them and will send your email to spam purgatory if you use too many. Once upon a time I collaborated with an Italian physicist. I was always digging her correspondence out of the spam filter basket because she could not dispense with the triple bang (!!!). And my university’s spam rules deemed any triple bang as a sign of insincerity. Or something.
Wizbang, or did you possibly mean an interrobang (‽ )‽ 😉
Bbbeard, do you suppose your university’s spam filter would have flagged the double-exclamation (‼)? It’s found way down among such hyperextended characters as ‰ and ‴.
“Italics are far more expressive, and they never get a bad reputation…”
Bull#%£ [shit]. I can’t read a Robert Ludlum novel because of his gross use – and misuse – of italics. He uses them everywhere, and emphasizes things no one in his right mind would emphasize. Its exhausting.(!)
I think of the ?! as a shorthand for, and less “loaded” form of, WTF.
