I should have posted this earlier, and it’s hard to believe it’s been that long, but I drove up to Mojave on the twentieth of June, 2004, to see the first flight of SpaceShipOne into space. I put up several blog posts about it, starting with this one. Just consecutively click on the next post (at the top of the page) to see them all, along with links to other posts.

Can you remember how long ago it was that you gave up hope that they’d fly again “soon” 🙂
I just read an old email thread from 2008.. it’s really hard to believe that I was once *more* of a jerk than I am now. Maybe by the time I’m 40 I’ll actually be a nice guy.
On Saturday, I had dinner with the friend who drove down to Mojave with me to watch the flight. He couldn’t believe it had been seven years either.
I took my kids up for that flight. It didn’t make much of an impression on them, but I’m still glad I did it. Seems like another lifetime, actually….
I made ice cream, put out a grease fire with liquid nitrogen, ran the teacart engine, had fun. Been a while…
I recall the ice cream, Doug. Bill Whittle was there, too.
Yes, I recall seeing it from the XCOR area with Kevin Greene.
wow you had a blog back then?
Yes, dear, I had a blog back then. I’ve had one for almost a decade now.
Heh. That was a great tail-gate party, with the whole airport as the tail gate. I cooked breakfast for about 100 people, as I recall. And Bill Whittle slept in the hangar under the EZ-Rocket. Somewhere I’ve got photos of all the press, including Rand, getting sleepily out from various cubicles in the office. Mouser curled up in a video camera bag, as I recall.
Wow… I can’t believe it’s been that long. I remember where I was at the time, surreptitiously trying to watch the flight at my desk at work. Hard to believe it’s been 7 years already, and also somewhat hard to believe how much different my life is now compared to then.
I remember missing a day’s worth of law school classes to see the launch. It was an incredible experience. Funny, though that day is one of the highlights of law school.
