Someone needs to sell these politicians the next step, so that instead of working against what’s best for manned flight, they accept commercial launch systems and become advocates for manned deep space flight, I’m sure there’s plenty of pork there if it can be made to happen.
I’ve been asking a few of the pro-NASA crowd to confirm these rumors.. they seem to agree on the facts but not the interpretation.. that is, they seem to think there will be engines made for the flights after the SSMEs.. but none of them seem too happy with using the SSMEs without recovery. I don’t know how many have actually gained any sort of indignation as a result of this news.. the desire for self-deception is pretty strong.
If it’s a Senate launch system, could it launch the Senate? (return to Earth optional.)
Great article Rand. This is exactly what we need to do. Keep pointing out the hypocrisy of Senators Nelson, Shelby, and Hutchison.
The Senate Launch System must die. I would prefer a quick, swift death compaired to a slow and agonizing one.
Lets get on with the nation’s business of meaningful American spaceflight and not a jobs program.
