I’ve always felt the best way to help endangered animals (and mammals especially) would be to cut out all the many laws we have regarding the importing and keeping of rare and exotic animals. If somebody wants to risk owning a Tasmanian Devil, that’s their business. The point is, there’s a market for these animals as pets (or at least, attempted pets) and a market is a fine way to avert a “tragedy of the commons.”
Today’s endangered species is tomorrows invasive species heh. 🙂
That guy is an “enivronmental editor”? Does he check any facts? 10 seconds of “research” on the internet would have told him this about the okapi: “Today there are approximately 10,000–20,000 in the wild; 40 different worldwide institutions display them”.
