  1. There’s enough piling on Fenn to go around, so I’ll just point out that new investors interested in commercial space might want to wait and watch the Orbcomm launches before rallying to Musk’s aid. If largely successful, SpaceX will have substantially lowered the bar considerably in evaluating launch system risk in the commercial sector. You’ll have the first system in two decades that went all the way to sounding without a government dime and for less than the cost of the most expensive ULA launches. If not, expect more of this sort of slippery slope harping.

  2. I saw the blog post a day or two ago when only a few comments were posted — and those had already eviscerated the content of the posting. I had never heard of Peter Fenn before, but some of the comments alluded to him being a conservative writer. I’m not glad now hear he’s a Democrat Strategist so his irrationality towards Elon Musk makes much more sense.

There was a little DoD funding in the earliest days and significant NASA funding over the last few years from COTS. I think the latter may make up as much as half the cost of the whole development process, but I don’t really know.

    It’s still a remarkable project.

  4. The immediate evisceration of Fenn’s ill-informed hit piece brings great comfort. But not near as much as watching Falcon 9 soar into the blue. Musk has been scary successful, so far….

  5. Yes, I remember Fenn from the Clinton days. His new blog post reinforces my old impression of him as a sloppy hack.

  6. They say they are going public, but to be honest, and I am prejudiced here, I would bet on the major car companies, not someone who makes a $100,000-plus sports car.

Before or after the bailout and nationalization? As a taxpayer or investor? Is he calling his broker right now to put his money in GM’s IPO or is he a liar?
