I suspect that the phrase is an oxymoron, sort of like “French victory.” Anyway, if anyone would know how economically crazy the French are, it would be Veronique.
[Wednesday afternoon update]
I’m shutting down comments on this post, because it seems to have become a spam magnet.
You want to know what is really crazy? This started after the electricity generation sector was privatized in France. Windmills and gas fired power plants are cheaper to build than nuclear reactors. Windmills are cheap to build and install, while gas fired power plants are used to smooth lack of supply issues, due to wind variability, at the cost of depending on unstable nations for the natural gas supply such as Algeria. France is moving their infrastructure to these generation methods which is sheer insanity.
Coal does not make a lot of sense in France because of the low coal reserves in Europe after industrialization and several wars.
Oh and get this other doozy: one of France’s main exports is cheap nuclear produced electricity. Once they switch to these other production methods Italy, Germany, and the UK will have to find some other source of cheap electricity.
It is ironic that one makes the statement about French Victory on May 11th, the anniversary of Fontenoy. Of course 265 years is a long time.

Was that the last one?
Just kidding, I know about Napoleon. But then, he was a Corsican, wasn’t he… 😉
Best French naval victory: Sinking the Greenpeace ship.
