An amusing tweet from Jeff Foust, before what looks like an interesting panel discussion:
Overheard pre-event chatter: “Democrats don’t think capitalism works below the atmosphere and Republicans don’t think it works above it.”
Sad but true.

Edward,
I am state this slowly since you seem to have difficulty understanding things.
I did not say winged spacecraft were impossible, merely capsules are easier and cheaper to build. That is why most of the New Space firms are focusing on capsules or at best lifting bodies. Its also why its up to the government to build a TSTO if its ever going to get build.

Yes, you say a great many things without any evidence. Capsules are cheap and easy. The Moon is the only place where it’s possible to have commercial enterprises. Etc.
NASA’s cost estimate for the oversized, overengineered 2nd Generation RLV was only $5 billion. Its cost estimate for the Orion capsule is twice that — four times, if you include the launcher.
But you prefer to rely on religion, rather than facts.

Scaled Composites, XCOR, Armadillo, Masten, etc. are not building capsules. It’s not up to the government to spend billions of dollars simply because you’re unaware of what’s going on in the world.
Edward,
[[[NASA’s cost estimate for the oversized, overengineered 2nd Generation RLV was only $5 billion. ]]]
And which one was this? I know from talking to engineers who would know a second generation Shuttle it would be around $15 to 20 billion.

When they get around to building orbital systems we will see what they build.
