Just dogs, over Afghanistan. I’d have like to have been at the meeting where this was first suggested.

kewl. I wonder how they determine that Dogs don’t perceive height difference
Well it kinda makes sense… dogs tend to “fail” the mirror test as well, whereas a cat will get very curious/anxious about that other cat in the mirror.
They probably used some form of practical test or video simulation to entice a reaction due to height, and the test dogs failed to perceive it.
With baby’s they have then crawl on a clear surface.
(Vague recollection from some discovery channel show)

I’m concerned about windchill and frostbite on dogs’ long thin legs with short hair.
I’ll be impressed when the dogs have frickin’ lasers on their heads.
HAHO jumps with a dog sounds pretty cool but airdropping animals isn’t a new idea. I’ve seen a picture from WWII where they airdropped mules in the China Burma India theater. I wouldn’t want to the be bundle-kicker responsible for pushing a mule out of a plane.
A local pilot had a black labrador that went everywhere with him in his A36 Bonanza. No problem until one day the air was very clear and they were above small but fairly tall cumulus such that there was a very obvious 3D effect. The dog suddenly realised he was thousands of feet in the air and refused ever to fly again.
There are a lot of dogs that love to fly, such as this one. Getting them to like jumping out of a plane might be a different matter.

Recalcitrant mules had their tails lifted and a heated piece of metal rod applied to the tender spot. They couldn’t get out of the plane fast enough!
Gotta be a political metaphor there somewhere …
I suppose its better than dropping bears on them.
