You laugh, but that sounded a lot like a lot of real criticism the revamped Doctor Who series got from fans of the “classic” series. For example, they complained that due to a new budget of more than five quid and change, the costumes and effects looked too good, as opposed to the old stuff-picked-up-around-BBC-studios cheap sets the old series had, and thus the new series lacked the homespum “charm” of the old series. (One of the earliest shows, which I watched on DVD, I swear had a set made out of cardboard, typing paper, and aluminum foil.)
