  1. I’m at DFW, on my way to Orlando via West Palm Beach,

Orlando via West Palm, via rental car or twin-prop puddle jumper? Idly curious.

    1. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love the word Boom. Just not for a company trying to do commercial aerospace. Esp. a company that wants to commercialize supersonic aviation. Esp. given the track record for supersonic aviation over the CONUS. (Hint: it doesn’t exist because it was outlawed by the FAA*). If you want a cool word that implies speed to name your company, with a prayer of a revised FAA regulation, how about “Woosh!”?

*Special Flight Authorization For Supersonic Aircraft:
…In response, FAA emphasizes that the proposed rule would not have allowed supersonic flights to occur on a regular basis in the United States. The regulation that generally prohibits civil airplanes from operating at speeds in excess of Mach 1 over land in the United States (14 CFR 91.817) has been in effect since 1973, and no change to that regulation was proposed.

  2. This is a riot. (via Stephen Green) I put in “lens” and maxed it out (over 100, wanted to do “equity lens” but an “AND” is hardcoded). Here’s one at random:

EXAMINING BLACKNESS IN POSTSECONDARY STEM EDUCATION THROUGH A MULTIDIMENSIONAL-MULTIPLICATIVE LENS. DESPITE WELL-INTENTIONED UNIVERSITY EFFORTS TO SUPPORT BLACK UNDERGRADUATE STEM STUDENTS, POLICY AND PRACTICE REFORMS RUN THE RISK OF NOT APPROPRIATELY BENEFITING ALL BLACK PEOPLE DUE TO PERVASIVE, DEFICIT-BASED ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT BLACK RACIAL IDENTITIES AND THE TYPES OF STRUCTURAL ENGAGEMENT NEEDED TO ADVANCE HOLISTIC, RACIAL WELL-BEING IN TRANSFORMATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE WAYS.

      1. $2.8M to the University of Illinois. As you go through them the lower dollar ones are more likely to show absurdity.

    1. We have no shortage of smart people, it is other characteristics we need. There is no correlation between being intelligent and being a good person and our system relies on the relative “goodness” of the people who operate it.

It would be beneficial to sort based on other factors than IQ. Most government jobs aren’t that complicated and there is a large pool of reasonably intelligent people who could be convinced to work for government.

Of course, all that depends on how you define “goodness”.

IMO, a lot of smart people are leftists because that has been the cool place to align oneself and that means they are incapable of knowing right from wrong. This is true for others who aren’t leftists per se but have a similar operating system.
