I am worried about an Oct 7 style attack here. In a previous life, I did a report on our local emergency management and what they were doing to prepare for terrorist attacks and it wasn’t much but they were also focusing on things that were more about infrastructure than people. Side note, tour of their vehicles was pretty cool.
Without getting into specifics, it would be trivial to overwhelm the response of any police force and this could take place simultaneously across the country. Typically, we think of large cities as being the prime targets but larger cities have the most resources to respond. Again without any specifics, any individual would have a hard time protecting themselves even if armed.
Aside from our opponents being inbred, the only barrier to an effective attack is ignorance of our culture but that has changed with mass importation of hostile populations.
Should this occur, I don’t think the world will like the response. The global left was foolish to give up on incrementalism and their jihadi fellow travelers will probably make the same mistake.
What can an individual do? Not much if someone is determined but making yourself more annoying just might save you and your families’ lives.

Post-Katrina, someone tried to break into the house I was renting. They used the mailbox post, a 4×4, which wasn’t properly embedded in the ground, as a field-expedient battering ram at about 3AM.
Unfortunately for them, my door, unusually, opened out instead of in, so the little board in the frame that serves to hold the weatherstripping and hold the door from going too far foiled their first attempt, (and also, the house was old and the door was solid wood), and they ran away.
We knew this was a possibility becaue a friend who lived in a fairly crummy apartment complex told us he’d overheard his own neighbors talking about hitting our neighborhood and warned us.
HaShem expects us to defend ourselves.
A firearm, the training and will to use it is a good force multiplier. So are unarmed defensive techniques such as Krav Maga. Skip stylized dance programs like karate and judo
“Skip stylized dance programs like karate and judo.”
They do have deterrent value. I stopped visiting the Cato Institute, because every time I went in, this Oriental butler leaped on me from out of nowhere, trying to defeat me through the use of “karate.”

Agreed. With one important caveat; you need to find competent instruction in Krav Maga (or a comparable self-defense oriented instruction). Not very easy to locate (outside of Israel); too many McDojos getting on board with the Krav Maga bandwagon.
The thing is, you need to practice. If the outcome is lethal that’s rather hard to do. I suppose you could use a clay dummy.
I remember G. Gordon Liddy holding up a pencil: “I can kill you with this…”
It would give you the best chance to survive but an individual against a group of trained men would not last long. The threat we face is different than in the past. Twenty years of war didn’t just sharpen our own skills and that war continues for our opponents.
Obama had a “manufacturing czar” named Ron Bloom. A Harvard educated former SEIU official who spent some time with an investment banking firm was captured on video in 2008, speaking to a labor audience. He described the Administration’s attitude toward government and economic activity. The pertinent quote is: “We know this is largely about power, that it’s an adults only, no limit game. We kind of agree with Mao that political power comes largely from the barrel of a gun.”
We, the people, agree. And we have more fucking guns than they do.
And we have more fucking guns than they do.
This line will look great carved on your tombstone.
Is that a threat, ace?
Michael, underestimating one’s enemies’ strength and resolve is recipe for disaster and defeat. Just ask the Russians. Radicals of all flavors (left wing, Islamic, etc.) have never had the slightest difficulty getting guns. They also have exhibited skill in their use. And a willingness to do so. Thinking otherwise is just foolish. If civil war comes to America, Michael S. Kelly and his buddies are not going to be strolling around town shooting unarmed Black Lives Matter and Antifa members.
Anyone can be trained to fight and physical fitness is one of the easiest things to fix. An individual may be troublesome but no matter how skilled they are, they will not do well against a group trained to act with each other.
Americans have guns, few train cqb or any of the skills needed outside an urban environment either.
