  1. FDR didn’t think they were illegal. That’s why he sent thousands of people of Japanese ancestry to camps across the west. Some of them, like a friend of mine (now deceased) were US citizens.

    Yes. However many years ago the Supreme Court ruled that said internment of the Japanese was declared unconstitutional; and I believe survivors and/or their immediate descendants were entitled to recompensation.
    Presumably Trump for his deportation of illegal alien non-citizens would invoke the 1807 insurrection act and that would be his legal justification for deploying the military.

  3. Even if we suppose it’s legal, what’s the need? There’s already a lot of law enforcement manpower to throw at this and the problem doesn’t seem to be getting worse. My take is Trump’s reputation alone may cause a drop in illegal immigration just by itself like it apparently did in 2017.

    And how much mass surveillance are we getting with this?
