  1. Many conservatives believe that government bureaucrats have too much discretionary authority and use it to enact a liberal agenda, thereby eluding democratic control. This does occur in some instances.

The fed bureaucracy consists, in a first approximation, entirely of Democrats in various stages of activism. Trump got something like 6 percent of the vote in Wash DC, and the “some instances” are reserved for places where the sabotage of the opponent’s program will be the most effective. That’s no way to run a government.

      1. There’s much excitement in Boise ID with the rumor that the Dept. of Interior is locating its HQ there with all the incumbent office and field jobs so desperately needed in this State.

    1. I read his book some time ago. He was more nuanced there than was reported (naturally).

I still thought he was overall wrong, and wrong fairly quickly. I’m not sure why people would take his advice now, at least not without a second and third opinion.

  2. My feeling about stuff like this: if there’s no bureaucracy to overregulate then there’s no overregulation. There’s a possible solution being overlooked.

Government has a few functions that we haven’t figured out a good way to peel off – such as national defense, law enforcement. large scale emergency service, or road building. For the rest, maybe it should just not be there?
