On the left right scale of more to less government, libertarians aren’t left out, they are far right.
I get why they don’t want to adopt the label but shouldn’t that come with the recognition of why that term is used and then to not participate in using the term that way?
I find it odd that they both present Trump as not being liberal, as they defined the word, especially in relation to the alternative.
It seems libertarians favor lower taxes.
But it seems you could have “more government” and less taxes.
You could have more government and less restrictive laws {which cost less money and give more “freedom”.}.
The main problem with more government is it tends to take away freedoms, but you could say this just due to poor and stupid and lazy governing.
How about school choice and get rid of CIA.
It seems pretty libertarian.
It seems the only people prevented by classified stuff, particularly if older than 10 years, is American public. And Congress critters which don’t know if space aliens have invaded.
And let’s talk about stupid.
Everyone should know that government can not control global climate.
And no govt in the world has reduced global CO2 levels.
It may since “fun” to allow politicians spend your time talking about this. But I think they should beaten with a stick.
If you use a left-right scale, you won’t get a good reading on anybody. For thirty years, libertarians have used the World’s Smallest Political Quiz, which uses two scales, one on personal freedoms and one on economic freedoms, giving you two scores to plot a position on a grid. Many use these types of quizzes now, with the only difference being who is at the top; obviously the WSPQ puts libertarians at the top – its their quiz, after all – with authoritarians at the bottom.
Left-right is great political shorthand, especially in newscasts where you don’t want people to think too much when you villify the other side. For serious discussion, you have to figure out why people believe what they do – core beliefs – and where that reasoning takes them.
Back in the 20th century, the appeal of Libertarians was elitist, not populist. Which was a major reason why they never wanted to go after support from the disaffected who didn’t want to support the Republicrats, but went instead for Perot or Buchanan or even the Tea Party. Those people were just a little too icky.

How about US citizen can buy 10 times amount of ocean that China has bought US farmland and at 1/10th price of what China bought it for [per average price per acre].
Just gave govt more to do.
