He was a comical/musical genius. I hadn’t been aware that he wrote the score for Silent Running.

Alas, the only deceased composer we could still commission will not be down for breakfast.
RIP PDQ
Saw him perform (and speak) quite a few times. A genuine comedic (and musical) talent.
“Tell them all they love will die
Tell them why in the sun
Tell them it’s not too late
Cultivate one by one
Tell them to harvest and rejoice in the sun”
Song Rejoice in the Sun from Silent Running.
I didn’t know he was still alive, but am saddened at the news of his passing. He really was a comic genius. It’s difficult to say what his greatest works were, but the one that makes me laugh every time is the Eine Kleine Nichtmuskik. In the album I had (since lost), he remarked that much of the music seems familiar, but then, most of the great music seems very familiar. Here’s a recording, enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAesCTAfhJM
RIP, Professor Schickely.
Roger Kimball is apparently a fan; in a recent column he said that Claudine Gay’s scholarship would “hardly qualify for tenure at the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople”. The U of SND at H featured in a number of PDQ Bach exposures.
