The problem with the present government having a years long record of interfering with news media, and “scientists” willingness to lie about it makes any article now suspect. If Fauci okayed paying for the “gain of function” research he’s the biggest mass murderer since Pol Pot. That seems to me sufficient reason to not trust anything coming from him or his circle of associates.
I don’t think it’s a question of if. More of when and how. Post the Obama moratorium and during the Trump era, (These btw are the internal machinations of the Deep State. The administrations they fall under are largely just happenstance. In both cases the WH was giving wide berth to the “experts” who first called for the moratorium and then set up the review panel. But some will scream Orange Man largely only because it makes them feel better because they can) a review process was set in place to examine the hazards of potential research in the gain of function area and approve/disapprove that was never utilized. Largely as I understand it because Fauci simply played a semantic game of redefinition such that whatever he was funding he defined as not GoF and hence not subject to review. That one person should have that authority is something that needs to change.
And then there is the issue of the Echo Health Alliance. An international NGO that has a history of funding dangerous research in unaccountable totalitarian countries. It’s HQ is in NYC and therefore is subject to US law. Should it chose to move out of the US the G20 should make sure that it cannot move money through the Western banking system without some form of independent oversight perhaps via the WHO or perhaps something more stringent.
Anything less almost guarantees a repeat of same.

How do we square “it’s just the flu, bro” line of Conservative thinking on COVID with “Dr. Fauci has blood on his hands for covering up Gain-of-Function research”?
If SARS-COV2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is over exaggerated in its danger, do we really care about Dr. Fauci’s huffy defense to Dr. Paul’s questioning? If Dr. Fauci needs to answer for the havoc he helped unleash on the world, can we discount the danger that the virus continues to pose?
I never considered the Alpha, Beta and Delta variants as “just the flu bro”. These strains caused deep lung infection and in many instances triggered a cytokine storm causing the immune system to go haywire along with plummeting blood O2. I’ll never forget how ER doctors that were forced to put people on ventilators kept remarking at how adept this novel disease was so easily causing major illness.
But viruses evolve. The primary function above all else is to reproduce. Killing the host is always suboptimal. That Omicron and variants has evolved outside the laboratory to be highly infectious but by and large non lethal is a natural evolution of a virus.
But putting viral strains through serial passage experiments, to determine improvements in infectivity of chimeric mice with human ACE2 receptors in their lungs under BSL2 protocols in a lab controlled by the CCP, whilst paying for it with US taxpayers dollars. This is a problem.

I don’t feel compelled to square with any one else’s thinking. I think the vaccines helped. I think natural immunity works. I think your odds with the vaccine above age 60 was far better than catching any of the early COVID variants. I think medical “professionals” that signed that open letter condoning the George Floyd public protests during a pandemic needlessly put lives at risk in violation of their Hippocratic oath.
And for the record, I think you’re a good friend.
It isn’t just a stain on Fauci’s soul. It is a stain on our country. Our country participated in the creation of COVID. I know what punishment Fauci deserves but what about our country? And China?

For instance, give DARPA some credit for not funding Echo Health for advancing the spike protein GoF work two years earlier. It appears however their support wasn’t needed.
Bio weapons safety is a little harder to enforce than nuclear proliferation. It’s impossible to impose the equivalent of a test ban. And it really doesn’t require processing mountains of ore to get started. Indigenous caves seem more than adequate.
