Listening to Bennett and Gaga (Tony & Stefani) on Spotify today. Just a decade old and yet feels like a classic from the post-war 40s. What a duet.
I heard Bennett singing “Body and Soul” with Amy Winehouse on Sirius today. I didn’t know Winehouse but all I could think was to wonder why she would do such a thing. Tony’s lines were warm, mellow, and perfectly articulated, and Winehouse’s were screechy and blurred. I know the lyrics and still couldn’t follow her singing. She must have fans, but she did herself no favors to set up such an unflattering comparison.
Later I happened to hear Bennett sing it solo. Much better.
Sad to hear the news. I began to appreciate Bennett only recently, but it comforts me to know there is quite an oeuvre for me to explore.
