It’s the NASA way….The Webb Telescope was supposed to cost (lifetime) $750-million and launch in the late 1990’s.
The institutional rot isn’t confined to just NASA. We need to start eliminating government agencies and constitute new ones based on needs as they arise.
I’ve long been of the opinion that the easiest spy job in the world would be as an agent provocateur tasked with slowing down NASA so that others can catch up with, or surpass, the U.S. in space efforts. How would the results be any different from what we have now?
SpaceX
Thanks to Bezos and Musk for showing us how worthless a government-run space program can be.
When a long-term, high-priced program has to compete with handouts to buy votes, private industry will always make NASA look slow, inefficient, corrupt(Shelby you prick), greedy(ULA), aimless, leaderless, lacking realistic goals(STS, SLS, Artemis), navigationally lacking(fuel depots, space stations, exploration[lack thereof]), inept, and slow. Maybe I repeat myself.
I’m starting to despise public/civil servants of all stripes. Most seem to be making dishonest livings at the expense of people who are actually productive while getting in the way of being productive.
Many will be true believers, though. Often the induction process guides them into this very strongly and persuasively.

I hate how right I was:
