Trent Telenko says it’s not going well for that Russian convoy.
[Update a few minutes later]
Unfortunately, as noted at the end, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
[Sunday-morning update]
Day 8 of the column held hostage.
This isn’t a debacle for the Russian military; it’s a disaster.
The U.S. Army has been studying how to move long columns of motor vehicles for more than a hundred years It’s one of those things that seem simple until you try to do it. It isn’t and was no simpler when the vehicles were drawn by livestock. Their biggest mistake was allowing the road to be completely blocked by disabled vehicles, I can’t figure out why they just haven’t pushed enough out of the way, by hand if necessary, to clear a lane, they have 120,000 people standing around.
Since they don’t appear to be under threat, maybe they’re waiting for something. Maybe all the “stuck in the mud with bad tires” stories are made up?

“Waiting for something” in the optimal defensive position of being strung out on a narrow road with no ability to maneuver. No “under threat” indeed. And maybe you’re right, the Ukraine probably isn’t muddy in the spring. Those tires probably broke up for other reasons than being bad.
I find it so sad when right-thinking individuals are forced to make excuses for a inadequately performing reality. Well, when Kiev falls oh five or six days ago, we’ll have something better to talk about than bad tires and mud.
Yesterday I read that one of their top gung-ho generals went to the head of the column to personally straighten things out. A Ukrainian sniper shot him in the head. I also read that the plan to use helicopters to fly fuel in for the trucks fell apart when they lost the airport they were using in a counter-attack. Meanwhile the Turkish drones continue to pick it apart, no doubt prioritizing the targets like NATO would. And there’s bound to be Ukrainians creeping out of the woods to slash tires, disable engines, and plant booby traps.
Some speculate that they’re out of gas, some speculate that they are waiting for equipment coming by rail to catch up. Some speculate and speculate and pretend its news and fact.
You should have repeated that a third time to make sure it’s true.
So, why isn’t the entire Ukraine situation being held up as to why an armed populace is a good thing?
Depends where you look.
The vids of Ukrainians driving up to disabled Russian armor are telling….
Vehicles close together, no security out, these guys allowed to get within bomb-tossing range, the Russians smoking and joking and not a weapon to be seen in hand.
Terrific security, guys….
