Rand, how can you say Orion/SLS isn’t exciting? They are about to embark on a one-year journey of exploration, venturing deep into the area between the command and service modules. to uncover the mysteries of a faulty power-and-data unit.
How are the intrepid engineers going to map out a route to it? What other discoveries will they make along the way? They are going to be going places that even astronauts never get to go. If NASA had any marketing sense, they’d stream the whole thing live on Youtube. I’d slap a GoPro on the lead technician’s head and beam live coverage into classrooms.
The only thing more riveting, more important, more NASA than space exploration is space vehicle exploration.
Sounds like a remake of Fantastic Voyage. I’d watch it if they had Raquel Welch in it.
They should get Lt Tuck Pendleton on the case. He is the only one that can get deep into the wiring to see what is really going on.

Don’t forget the many exciting months and years of launchpad exploration to come!
This will also enable extended missions by the Orion capsule. Gas management by the life support system becomes easier when they can just stick a shoe in the hatch to keep it cracked open. Also, crew consumables became less of a problem when they can just phone out for pizza.
