I’ve discovered the E-ticket to anywhere: I “identify” as herd-immune.
I think this will increase the move towards telework and telepresence. It might boost our habilities to colonize planets using robots in the mid term. I just hope we won’t end like planet Solaria in Isaac Asimov’s series.
Another thing is that worry is like an immune system. If one doesn’t have something credible to worry about, then they tend to worry about frivolous things. Here, since covid is here to worry about, the traditional academic worries take a back seat. My bet is that those will return to prominence once covid is safely in the past. This is merely an indication that most of academia sometimes recognizes important threats when they appear.
