Nearly all of them had underlying conditions.
Of all of these, I only have hypertension (which I think is vastly overdiagnosed, andoverrated as a risk). And since only 6% had only one, I’d think it’s unlikely that hypertension by itself is that big a risk, so despite my superannuated condition, I’m not that personally concerned.
I wish they would put out better information on this. For example:
41.7% of those hospitalized had obesity. But 39.6% of the US has obesity. So it sounds like obesity can’t really be a causal factor.
53.1% of those hospitalized had hypertension. But 45% of the US has hypertension. So it sounds like hypertension may be a slight factor.
31.7% of those hospitalized had diabetes. But 10.5% of the US has diabetes. So it sounds like diabetes may be a large factor.
Morbid obesity – not a factor at all, 19% vs 18%.
Garbage in, garbage out. They need to give more information to even parse the data, and these graphs are misrepresenting reality. I wish I could report this more widely, I bet a lot of people are unnecessarily concerned.
Everyone has an underlying condition as humans go through life in various states of disrepair.
