“The problem is that the model initially showed a U.S. death toll of up to 240,000 but now projects fewer than 70,000 deaths. Has social distancing really been the key to keeping the death rate low?”
Why is it problem that model showed 240,000 and now fewer than 70,000.
Does anyone know what number it’s going to be?
A current US death total death is 37,154
It possible it’s not accurate, but if assume it’s fairly accurate, are we going to less than another 37,154 deaths added.
New York State has 873 deaths per million.
US has about 320 million can you times 873 and by 320 and get
279,360 deaths in US?
California has 27 deaths per million. Can times 27 by 320 = 8670 deaths in US.
It seems roughly, population density is probably related the difference between 8670 to 279,360 deaths in US
One could say New York State is comprised in fashion that it’s lacking in “social distancing”.
But it also seems New York States deaths, could have been somewhat random, instead being 873 deaths per million, today, chance might have resulted in less then 500 death or more than 1000 deaths per million.
And such randomness, could have little to do with the properties of the Chinese virus- assuming had or will ever have precise knowledge of such properties.
Again: “Has social distancing really been the key to keeping the death rate low”
It’s not just Italians in Italy which kiss each other on the cheek, would advise people not shake hands and kiss each other on the cheeks.
Should we open up international air travel?
I don’t think other countries would want to do this.
Are other countries, strongly swayed by graphs displayed by US government?
One might suggest that Sweden was not overly impressed by them, but Sweden still suggests that public engage in social distancing- but going to try not mandate some kinds of restriction.
Sweden has borders and low population densities and it’s possibly the idea of gaining herd immunity, might work.
But Sweden isn’t the world’s superpower, Swedes could be in a full panic, and be going to full martial law in a week or two, and doesn’t have much effect upon the world.
Sweden has a way of triggering people. It represents everything we’re supposed to do or everything we’re not supposed to do. It is the welfare state at its best or multiculturalism at its worst. True to form, or contrary to form, Sweden is now setting off everyone in its handling of the coronavirus. Unlike most of the developed world, including neighboring Norway or Denmark, Sweden has kept its elementary schools running and allowed most its businesses, including restaurants and bars, to remain open. Travel in and out of the country remains possible for E.U. nationals. And social distancing remains, for the most part, voluntary, provided the group in question has fewer than 50 people. In short, Sweden has refused to join the rest of us in a lockdown. https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/04/can-you-beat-covid-19-without-a-lockdown-sweden-is-trying

On topic of models.
Earth climate is not controlled by CO2
Earth is currently in Ice Age, and has been in Ice Age for
millions of years.
Rather than called, Ice Age {which everyone says it is} one call it
an Icehouse global climate. I like icebox climate.
Earth has had Icehouse climates and Hothouse climates.
Def hothouse: “1: a greenhouse maintained at a high temperature especially for the culture of tropical plants”
So common global temperature one has for tropical plants, a bigger tropical zone and most area on Earth which similar to tropical conditions which tropical plants don’t freeze and die.
Def icehouse: “a building for storing ice, typically one situated partly or wholly underground.”
So during our glacial period, Earth does store a lot ice.
But tend to think of house made of ice, whereas Icebox:
“a chilled box or cupboard for keeping something cold, especially food.
DATED•US
a refrigerator.”
I think of icebox as refrigerator and/or “chilled box or cupboard” so I like icebox climate.
But I think “something” is keeping Earth cool, like refrigerator or chilled box.
And normally or most of it’s time, Earth is much warmer than our icebox climate and cooler than an Hothouse climate.
Anyhow, Icehouse or icebox or Ice Age is defined by having cold ocean and polar icesheets {icecaps}.
And of course we have a cold ocean and polar icesheets {two of them}.
What controls Earth climate is having a cold ocean.
Bingo.
