It’s not about hoarding.
That makes sense. It would imply that places who specialize in supplying businesses, like Smart and Final in LA, would have plenty.
[Update a while later]
It’s disrupting the locavore supply chain as well.
We’re now seeing the fragility of our civilizational infrastructure. It needs to be more robust and resilient.
I haven’t had the need yet but I suspect the next time I need to use the facilities at a gas station / convenience mart, not only will I have to ask for a key, but put down a $20 bill and be handed “the roll”. Return the key and “the roll” to get my $20 back.
People swipe office supplies all the time, don’t they? What are the odds that rolls of TP have already begun to join the pens and staplers that “walk away” from the workplace?
Smart & Final’s toilet paper stock – when it has any, which it hasn’t with any regularity for awhile now – is the consumer-oriented stuff, not that thin, skinny commercial/institutional stuff. Some of it just comes in larger-than-typical packages. So, no, S&F is not a usable secret stash. The stuff that’s in short or no supply other places is not to be found at S&F either.
