However, even Rippetoe would agree that training at sprinting makes one both faster and less likely to injure oneself when doing it.
You should be lifting. It makes your knees, hips and back stronger.

That said, Jack Lalane outlived him. Some cardio is good. The problem with running isn’t your heart, it’s wear in your joints. High-impact.
I do the rower, hike and swim.
My dog also runs to catch planes, fortunately he hasn’t caught one yet.
Based on my years in the military, I’ve become convinced that running causes brain damage.
