“The Deep State” sounds much too profound for these twerks. They should be referred to as a variant of those they resemble. Try out the appellation, “The American Babu State”. Their dependence on academic certification fits with the Reform Raj changes made before Indian independence, and their willingness to make life hard for those uppity enough to challenge the basis of their status, much less their policies, is all too like their Babu counterparts.
I’d like to see a political breakdown between regular civil service hirelings (both GS and WG) and Schedule C appointees. In theory, it’s the upper echelons who are the problem, as GS and WG have little authority. (At least in my day, or my Dad’s, which is getting to be a long time ago. I worked for DoD as a lowly WG and my Dad worked for DoI as a top-level GS.) I think the Republicans have a lot to be ashamed for that they didn’t step up to fill in behind Trump.
