As if the issue wasn’t already confused enough, now the Pentagon and Congress are talking about a “space national guard” (which is not a U.S. Space Guard).

I’m pretty sure it’s one of those things where you work a regular job, but a couple of weekends a year you ride the vomit comet or bound around on Mare Crisius in a space suit picking up moon rocks.
She packed my bags last night pre-flight.
Zero hour nine a.m.
And I’m gonna be high as a kite by then.
I miss the Earth so much, I miss my wife.
It’s lonely out in space on such a timeless flight.
…
And all this science, I don’t understand.
It’s just my job [6 weeks a year].
A rocket man, a rocket man.
….
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I’m not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no, I’m a rocket man
Rocket man, burning out his fuse up here alone…

This is just an appeal to spread spending through more States, through using the National Guard concept, without there being any benefit to the nation from it. Worse, it could end up giving the concept of a Space Guard equivalent to the Coast Guard a black eye. May it slide out of sight quickly.
