I’ve been saying this for years. The problem isn’t coming up with enough calories; it’s about feeding people a healthy diet. But the calorie-counting insanity is going to cause poor health all over, not just in the West.

Author seems to acknowledge that carbs are the problem in the obesity/diabetes epidemic which is a start.
Note however, no talk at all about meat.
The first and most pressing issue for world hunger is just ensuring that people have enough food to prevent starvation, and calories is an adequate proxy for measuring progress on that front. Of course, beyond that basic requirement good nutrition is important, but saying “the problem isn’t coming up with enough calories” is misleading at best.
