Potentially wonderful news on that front. I do think, though, that diet is underutilized in fighting it, and that much of it has been caused by scientifically terrible, bordering on criminal, nutrition advice for decades.

From your 2nd link:
“Defenders of the current guidelines’ argue that the urgency of our obesity and diabetes epidemics virtually demands that we march forward with recommendations based even on imperfect data.”
Gee…that sounds like the arguments trotted out for dare I say it, Climate Science; the parallels are interesting.
When I was diagnosed as type 2 a decade ago, the ‘doc recommended a strict low fat, high carb diet. Lots of pasta and potatoes.
Fortunately, I was not quite that stupid, and remembered from high school chemistry what starch is (glucose molecules) and that it turns to sugar within minutes of being eaten. And I also knew, shockingly, that sugar is bad for diabetics (and thus so is starch).
I disregarded the ‘doc from day one, and went low carb. It has worked wonders for me. I’m med-free.
When I encounter any type 2 diabetic that says they are low-fat per doctor’s orders, I tell them to fire their doctor immediately.
And as a related aside, beware of statin drugs; amongst other bad effects, they make blood glucose control far harder in many people.
Fasting and keto is easier that having your guts cut open. But maybe not.
