  1. This is a mistake that was made by Democrats. They would accuse Trump supporters of being things that Trump supporters knew they weren’t.

    Truth

    1. I was watching protest videos of Patriot Prayer and ANTIFA and the PP guys asked the ANTIFA why they were there, “We have to protect gay people from you guys.” (paraphrasing)

PP: “I’m here with my boyfriend to protect these people from you.”

Then the conversation turned to intra-homosexual jocularity.

There are certainly two realities being lived and I am not sure how to bridge the gap because protesting the white supremacist NAZIs and then finding out they they are a multicultural group of people with different sexual orientations still wont change people’s minds.

  2. I have been very seduced lately by the basic universal human income. But would we be able to find work that would fulfill us if we were on a basic universal income?

You think a man who knows so much about human nature would see the inherent problems of UBI more clearly.

Yeah. You have friends who would say stuff to you over supper that, if you pulled out that chunk, you could ruin their career. But you’ve known them their whole life. You know the exact context. Context is really tricky.

The context is that Trump was performing for the audience, not the TV audience but the audience of cast and crew. The entertainment industry is a crude place. Have any of you watched the Aristocrats? It is incredibly funny and it is some of the crudest behavior one can imagine. But it is a bit of an inside joke among comedians. They don’t actually think like the Aristocrats. Play a clip of those jokes if one runs for office though…

    1. I nearly pulled out that quote about context. It is very important.

The night of the election, I was asked by a Canadian how I could support Trump in regards to the Access Hollywood tape. It was interesting to me that she never heard the Brad Paisley song “Celebrity” released back in 2003. To wit:
“You can act just like a fool
      People think you’re cool
      Just ’cause you’re on TV”

It’s not cool of course, but so long as Trump was doing it on TV; nobody, including NBC and Access Hollywood, cared about his behavior. They had that tape for how long and kept it quiet when it might have negatively impacted them? Yet they are some heroes for releasing it later?

    2. Well, he also said “[a]bsolutely not. He would be a terrible president” and was wrong about that, too, unless you think “acting as if you have no filter” is worse than, you know, all the judges and reduced regulation, and signals to business that it’s OK to expand, and so on, like loons like Bill Kristol does.

Do I think Trump’s vulgar publicly? Yeah, and it just doesn’t matter when balanced against the other stuff.

    3. Whenever I see someone advocating UBI online, I try to persuade them by asking them to clarify their terms. Universal – does that mean everybody from Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos to the homeless guy that lives under a bridge? Basic income – just how much are you talking about per month? Suppose you decided that everyone in the US 18 and older 18 would get $1000 a month, while those under 18 would get $300 a month. I then pull up population figures and do some simple math on large numbers to show such a program would cost about $3.5 trillion a year. As a point of reference, the entire US budget is about $4 trillion a year. How are we going to pay for that, year after year? I’ve actually had some of them say “You’re not being helpful” because instead of going along with their economic fantasy, I’m putting numbers to their ideas. Look, I get it, everyone is lured by the appeal of “free stuff”, but nothing is really free.

  3. Penn seems to have moved away a bit from libertarianism, though I don’t think he’s stopped being essentially a libertarian.

  4. You want crude in a President, Lyndon Johnson is your go to guy with the added bonus he was worse than useless and a coward.
I’d take Trump any day and in any case, I know it is a low bar, he only has to be better than HRC.

    1. Crude. Corrupt. Utterly Vicious.
Read any of Robert A. Caro’s exhaustive biography of LBJ and you will see that LBJ would have been right at home in the Senate of the Late Roman Republic — when everything was for sale.

  5. “We have enough old material to last the rest of our lives. Our career goes exactly the same if we do old material as if we do all new brilliant stuff…”

Funny, that’s how I characterize my career status!

  6. “Guess it’s because I’ve always thought he was a pretty sharp guy”

    Groan. Hiss, boo. 😉
