At some point, I think it will be important to distinguish between resource utilization for personal use (living off the land), for commercial use in space (e.g., selling propellant), and terrestrial use.

I recognize 2 useful theories of property:
– An ethical theory where property derives from work of the hand and sweat of the brow. In the case of “land” claims, putting in the work to develop and use the land.
– A pragmatic theory that equates control with ownership.
Nether of these distinguishes between living off the land vs. extracting resources for sale. Sound property law serves to help align the latter theory with the former.
