This is one area where AI could be a boon to human knowledge. By crawling through all of the literature, a huge AI program may be able to separate the wheat from the chaff in any given field.
There’s always the possibility, however, that the AI program will become self-aware. We’ll know that if it gets to the end of its assessment, and says “Well, I’ve got all of the answers. What are they worth to you?”
Judith Curry’s comments on blogs vs journals is interesting, given that when you look back in history, journals got their start as 17th and 18th century printed equivalents to today’s digital blogs! The medium is different but the story remains the same.
